Mission:

Our mission is to help create a positive perception of people about dance as a dynamic art form and a serious profession capable of contributing to the socio-economic development of Africa. The Institute will do this by empowering young dancers, choreographers and other dance practitioners to acquire and advance their knowledge and understanding of dance. Our curriculum focuses both on theory and practice – in traditional as well as contemporary genres.

Objectives:

  • Provide educational opportunities for young people with differing educational backgrounds as well as professionals who want to access both academic and practical knowledge regarding Traditional and Contemporary African dance through a systematic and professional training program.
  • Develop new and innovative ways of creating and presenting African dance through a unique and exciting blend of old and new dance forms incorporating the spirit of both traditional and contemporary African dance philosophies.
  • Provide basic education in areas such as English language, reading/literature, maths and life skills etc.
  • Help preserve traditional dance as well as new forms through research, training and performance both for those pursuing dance study and for other members of the community.
  • Serve as the focus for community development and sensitization programmes.
