In October, Felix Dompreh, proud Noyam alumnus, founder and artistic director of Kuyum Arts gUG in Berlin, returned to the Noyam Theatre to share his artistry through a vibrant two-day dance workshop. Dancers from the Noyam Dance Institute immersed themselves in a rich exploration of Neo-African movement vocabularies, discovering new ways to embody, deconstruct, and transform dance through innovative choreographic tools.
The workshop culminated in an inspiring second day filled with group improvisations, heartfelt self-reflections, and personalized feedback sessions. What began as a technical exploration blossomed into a collective celebration of movement, creativity, and cultural expression.
The Noyam Theatre was delighted to host the Ghanaian premiere of the landmark theatrical production in november 2025, HANNIBAL – The Journey Continues in Ghana, a powerful exploration of historical endurance and contemporary African movement. This interdisciplinary performance transcended the boundaries of traditional theatre by blending the epic scale of opera and theatre with the immediacy of DJ culture and the physical dynamism of contemporary African dance. The work drew philosophical inspiration from the ancient Carthaginian general Hannibal, utilizing his legendary journey as a profound metaphor for global themes of migration, resilience, and cultural exchange that defined modern identity.
The production’s aesthetic was deeply rooted in local heritage, seamlessly connecting the ancient narrative to Ghana through the deliberate use of Adinkra symbols and Kente-inspired patterns within the design and choreography. This ambitious project was a major collaborative effort, symbolizing the convergence of academic research and artistic practice, presented by the Centre for Migration Studies, Noyam African Dance Institute, School of Performing Arts, and the OPPORTUNITIES Project. Audiences were invited to witness this proud, rooted, and modern spectacle on 1 Nov 2025 at the Noyam Theatre, Dodowa, and again on 3 Nov 2025 at the Drama Studio, University of Ghana.
